Best 3 Beaches in the North of Saint Lucia
St. Lucia, Helen of the West Indies, is hailed as one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. She is known for her breathtaking greenery, uniquely inspiring natural wonders and, of course, picturesque beaches worthy of social media attention.
Anyone who vacations in the Caribbean, particularly St. Lucia, wants to enjoy themselves on one of our infamous beaches, but since she is home to countless sandy splendors, it can be difficult to know where to start exploring.
We recognise the dilemma of selecting the most ideal beach to visit in St. Lucia and we have taken the liberty of shortlisting our top 3 in the north in the island.
Here are the 3 best beaches in the north of Saint Lucia:
3. Pigeon Island
Pigeon island is best described as an intimate connection between St. Lucia and a nearby islet via a man made causeway. This connection gave us 2 white sandy wondrous beaches that both fellow St. Lucians and intrigued tourists visit on a daily basis.
“Pigeon Island is a 44-acre islet located in Gros Islet in the northern region of Saint Lucia. Once isolated from the country in the Caribbean Sea, the island was artificially joined to the western coast of mainland in 1972 by a man-made causeway built from dirt excavated to form the Rodney Bay Marina.” -Wikipedia
Pigeon Island is also home to many historical pieces like tombs, artifacts and structures that once belonged to 2 warring nations (France and Britain) and Amerindians (dated from 1000 AD).
Today, Pigeon Island proudly showcases these rare finds in an established park, with an entrance fee.
2. Reduit Beach (Writer’s Favorite)
Reduit Beach is located in the western outskirts of Gros Islet, on the Northern edge of Saint Lucia.
It is praised for its calm, blue waters and is perfect for strolls.
Expedia describes the beach as a “picturesque strand with plenty of activities and excursions to nearby islands. The stretch of fine white sand is flanked by a mossy mountain, making for excellent photo opportunities. Bring the whole family to this dynamic beach for its great range of events and watersports.”
Here are the top reasons why we love Reduit Beach:
-It is lively on the weekends (locals and tourists alike visit, no entrance fee)
-It has water sports such as: jet skiing, tubbing, paragliding, parasailing
-It has a variety of restaurants, hotels, spas within its vicinity.
-It is sheltered by the Bay with very calm waters.
As a consequence of all the activities, this beach is known for its hustle and bustle. Yet someone who frequents Reduit beach can testify that it maintains an aura of relaxation, giving a sense of relief to anyone who steps on its white, sandy terrain.
1. Vigie Beach (Company’s Favorite)
Considered the city’s beach, Vigie Beach is conveniently located in the lovely city of Castries. It is readily accessible to anyone who is looking for a quick dip or a safe haven from their urban livelihood or travelers (George FL Charles Airport is nearby).
Vigie beach is 4km of white sand, greenery (almond trees for shelter) and clear blue waters as far as the eye can see. Along the 4km stretch, there are many restaurants and bars who specialize in the creation of local St. Lucian cuisine and Caribbean inspired cocktails with your name on it.
